Gun-Bow Reel Review #2
|
From Buckmasters.com By Ken Piper - June 09, 2002
How many times have you lost precious minutes struggling to untangle your hoist rope as you prepare to climb into your tree stand? Untangling a knotted rope is bad enough, but doing it in the dark when you know you should already be up in your stand is even more frustrating.
I recently tried a new product called the Bow-Gun Reel that can end those problems permanently. The Bow-Gun Reel is appropriately named, as it uses the premise of a fly-fishing reel to keep the included hoist rope tangle free and out of your way.
I found the Bow-Gun Reel to be very smooth and trouble-free.
You can secure the reel to a belt loop or to your tree stand. It comes with clips for easy attachment to an anchor point and to your equipment. I prefer to attach the reel to my tree stand since I don't want anything attached to me that has a rope on it -- other than my safety harness. Once you've clipped the reel on you or your stand, attach to other clip to your bow or gun and climb. The reel releases the rope without any extra pull on you or the stand, and it only releases what you need. Once you're in place and are ready, pull up your weapon. The line will automatically feed back into the Bow-Gun Reel as slick as you please.
The Bow-Gun Reel is available in 20-, 30-, 40- or 50-foot models, and you can purchase an optional neoprene cover for protection of the reel. The reel is built of steel and aluminum, trading strength and durability for the lightness plastic would provide.
